Lust for Life

Many of the locations used for filming were the actual places Vincent Van Gogh visited during his life. PLOT SUMMARY: Vincent Van Gogh is the archetypical tortured artistic genius. His obsession with painting, combined with mental illness, propels him through an unhappy life full of failures and unrewarding relationships. He fails at being a preacher to coal miners. He fails in his relationships with women. He earns some respect among his fellow painters, especially Paul Gauguin, but he does not get along with them. He only manages to sell one painting in his lifetime. The one constant good in his life is his brother Theo, who is unwavering in his moral and financial support. [IMDB - John Oswalt] ++++ DVD FEATURES: Officially licensed release from South Korea provides Wide Screen (letterbox) display and Dolby Digital Sound in ENGLISH with optional (removable) Korean subtitles. Includes Filmography. Please be aware that the quality of both the audio and video are subpar; somewhat better than the VHS release, and also widescreen/letterbox format (although the packaging indicates 4:3), but still not the high quality typical of Korean releases.

Customer Review: If you want to meet Vincent Van Gogh
Forget about the fact that it was made in the 50’s, the quality was restored and the directing is cartoonish; the story is rich, the artist was on an emotional rollercoaster, you get to see a lot of his work (well, some of them are actually reproductions of the paintings in the making) and the it’s starring Kirk Douglas and Anthony Quinn, need I say more?
